In this video clip taken from discourse titled 'Art of Leaving - Bhagavad Gita 8', Nithyananda speaks about the unique nature of Sanskrit, both linguistically and phonetically. The vibrations created by chanting in Sanskrit can bring about a change not only in the person chanting the Sanskrit mantra, but also the listener, and it has the power to purify the being.

Pl. permit me to differ: Inner transformation is possible only when a chanter/listener understands the meaning of the Sanskrit verse, contemplates its repercussions thoroughly and then implements whatever the mantra intends. bhagavadgitayb.blogspot.com
Nithyanandam and thank you for your comment.
You might have heard people chant sahasranaams, etc. How many do you think know the meanings?
Of course, if you know the meaning, the transformation can happen faster. But its not a necessity. Your openness for transformation to happen is more than enough. After that, the vibrations from the chanted mantra can do the trick.
As an example, there is no meaning for the sound OM. People might make meanings out of it. But that is different. As such, there is no meaning. Keep chanting it daily, and if possible, loudly, and see what happens next!
